Secular And Christian Wellness Retreats
As you search for Christian wellness retreats you will find that secular wellness retreats are not a new thing. They used to be called sanitariums (health resorts) or sanatoriums (hospitals). These came about as a treatment for tuberculosis before antibiotic therapy was developed. The belief was that fresh air, good nutrition, and often high altitude would allow the body's immune system to wall off pockets of tuberculosis.
The first sanitarium in North America was built in 1885, The Adirondack Cottage Sanitarium, in Saranac Lake, New York. Sanitariums were common in Europe and in Russia had a slightly different meaning. They were more like today's wellness health spa retreats, offering resort recreational facilities combined with alternative medicine facilities. Most sanitariums have been long since demolished, but some have survived to be used for other things. Many are believed to be haunted and are popular destinations for ghost hunters and are often featured in horror movies.
One thing has not changed. Doctors today still know that a healthy diet and environment are beneficial for people fighting long term illness. Today's wellness retreats combine a healthy diet with typical spa offerings like massage therapy and healing baths. The mineral baths in Saratoga Springs, New York are still in use today.
You don't have to be sick to go to a wellness retreat. Some people just like to recharge and get back on track to a healthy lifestyle. Whatever the reason, wellness spa retreats can be found in almost any area of the country and in almost every area of the world like the ones on Koh Samui in Southern Thailand. One in particular that I would like to now discuss is on the Island called Koh Samui which is owned by Thailand. The affordability and quality there can not be beat and the island has a number of health spas to pick from.
The health benefits of this healing escape to Health Oasis Resort for your body, mind, spirit will be tremendous. I know, I speak from experience because I traveled to that health spa retreat on the exotic island called Koh Samui in Southern Thailand where I enjoyed nine to eleven days of fasting, doing colonics, exercising, massage, sauna, vibrational energy healing, and discovering that my body actually has an energy system. Words can not describe how tremendous I felt after the wellness retreat was completed. Although it is not a specifically Christian wellness retreat it is still a wellness retreat for Christians who want to fix up the temple of the Holy Spirit which is their body and mind.
Both secular and Christian wellness retreats are growing in popularity as people discover the benefits of alternative natural health and healing. These retreats need not cost you an arm and a leg either if you know where to go. In my case I spent very little money at the health spa resort I already told you about and this was for nine to eleven days of the total spectrum of amenities including lodging. If you cannot stay a week or more, weekend packages are an option. If you do not want to travel a long distance there are also day spas or urban retreat spas available right where you live.
