Christian Team Building Retreats
Christian team building retreats, which are also called Christian corporate or Christian management retreats, are utilized by Christian companies as a training platform for their fortunate employees. These employees are fortunate to be working for a company that cares enough about its business and their employees to send them on such a retreat. The company also hopes to build some company loyalty and team spirit in their employees.
The number of Christian companies that are scheduling this kind of retreat are multiplying rapidly so there is a lot of evidence that these retreats work. They are usually held at large convention centers where meeting rooms are available, but outdoor activity is also used to help build the team. The Christian values of the people involved in giving the retreat and those within the people attending it only help to make the retreat more successful.
Besides the shared values aspect there is also a physical component added to the retreat which seems to really help. When people are engaged in physical activity, it's easier to talk about some things as opposed to being summoned to the corporate offices. Many physical challenges are issued. People may be split into groups and given supplies and tasks to complete, like a fancy scavenger hunt for instance. All this helps with team building.
So how can a physical activity like a scavenger hunt help with team building? The hope is that employees will put their heads together and find a way to complete the task. Competition with other groups spurs them on. Creative ways to solve problems are the result. The exercise illustrated in the Geico commercials is a team building activity since falling backwards and trusting that some member of your team will catch you builds trust and team work. But you'd better hope it isn't someone you've ticked off in the past. LOL !!!
During the course of this short Christian team building retreat there are also small group meetings and team strategy sessions. Business in an informal setting helps the participants to relax and it doesn't seem quite so much like work. Moreover, you get to know your bosses outside an office setting and the challenges give everyone a chance to show off their strengths. You may all learn things about each other you did not think possible, and discover you have a better working relationship when you get back to work.
