Christian fasting retreats are in greater demand than ever before. The reasons for Christian people selecting these retreats is varied. But each of the several reasons for wanting this kind of retreat among Christians fits into each category of the tripartite make up of man which is spirit, soul, and body. Let us now look at each of these reasons and why fasting Christian retreats can help the Christian advance the health of not only their relationship with God but also the health of their spirit, soul, and body.

Historically these kinds of Christian retreats have catered to the spiritual hunger in man who wants to focus on getting more of God and eating the bread of life who is Christ. So the attendee denies himself or herself of food for one, two or three and sometimes up to forty days in order too seek direction from God just as Jesus fasted in the wilderness in order to connect with his Father, overcome temptation, and gain more of the power of the Spirit as a result. His ministry was preceded by fasting and prayer as all true ministry should be.

Fasting also helps the tripartite component of man called the soul or mind. Christians seek to break some addiction or habit that has control over their soul/mind through fasting and prayer. It is best to do this at a retreat facility with the support of others who are also fasting. And if you can not find a retreat facility that is specifically labled as being Christian, you can still utilize the group support at a secular one and find a quiet place to pray by yourself as a Christian at the retreat facility.

The third reason that Christians seek a fasting retreat is to lose weight and often this reason is combined with either the first or second reasons given above to lend a more spiritual justification to go on the retreat as if the bodily reason is not good enough. It would probably be better for these people to seek out a weight loss retreat or Christian health retreat since the people in charge of this kind of retreat will have specific supports available to help you in your quest. If you want to pray during your time there you can do so in a private place there.

We have covered three reasons that Christians seek out fasting Christian retreats. For the first reason which is spiritual it would be wise for the Christian to seek out a retreat facility and gathering specifically designed for the spiritual quest. For the other two reasons related to the soul/mind and body the Christian does not need a specifically Christian fasting retreat facility but can take part in a secular one and still do their praying in private by themselves or with a friend they bring along on the retreat.
